The instruction to paste
This is the whole skill. One instruction, straight from the video. Copy it, you’ll paste it in step 3 below.
A skill is a set of instructions you save once. After that, Claude knows how to do the job every time you ask, without you re-explaining it. This one turns “write me an email” into a proper prompt before any writing starts.
Set it up in Claude
Open Customize, then Skills
In Claude (the website or the desktop app), click Customize, then Skills.
Click Add, then Write instructions
Click Add (the + button) and choose Write instructions. Name the skill prompt-builder.
Paste the instruction
Paste the instruction from the top of this page into the instructions box.
Save it
Save the skill and check it’s switched on in your Skills list.
Rather let Claude set it up?
Choose Create with Claude instead of Write instructions. That opens a chat where Claude writes the skill for you. Paste the instruction in as your description of what the skill should do, answer anything it asks, then save what it makes.
Don’t see Skills?
Skills need Code execution and file creation switched on. On Free, Pro and Max plans that’s under Settings → Capabilities. On Team and Enterprise, an admin turns it on for the organisation. Menu names move around as Claude updates, so if a label looks a bit different, look for Skills.
Use it in any chat
Type your task in plain words
No prompt skills needed. Say what you want the way you’d say it to a friend.
Answer the three questions
Claude asks what the output needs to contain, who reads it and what would make it wrong. Short answers are fine.
Get your prompt
Claude writes you a structured prompt. Run it straight away, or save it for next time.
Start any new chat with “use prompt builder”
Claude picks skills up on its own when a request matches, but saying the name makes sure it loads.

Why the three questions work
Most back-and-forth with Claude happens because it guessed. What goes in, who it’s for and what would make it wrong are the three things it guesses most. Answer them once, up front, and the first draft lands a lot closer.
Prefer to upload it?
If you’d rather skip the chat, this is the same skill written out as a file. Save it as SKILL.md inside a folder called prompt-builder, zip the folder, then go to Customize → Skills → Add → Upload. It adds a little structure to the finished prompt so every one comes out the same shape.
Using Claude Code instead? Put the same folder in ~/.claude/skills/. Skills you make on the Claude website don’t carry across to Claude Code on their own.
